Christmas Gooey Butter Cookies

Since butter cookies are a classic Christmas dessert, I of course had to include it in my blog. In my family, there is no Christmas without butter cookies. Of course, there are many different recipes for this tasty treat. I decided to try out a new one this season to make sure that I am using the best one out there for Christmas. This recipe looked colorful and festive, and I just had to try it out.

HOW TO MAKE CHRISTMAS GOOEY BUTTER COOKIES

You Will Need:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 white cake mix
  • 1/2cup sprinkles, divided
  • 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar

Directions:

  1. Cream together the butter and the cream cheese. Add the egg and the vanilla and beat until just combined. Beat in the cake mix until well blended. Stir in 1/4 cup of the sprinkles. Refrigerate at least one hour or overnight.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a cookie sheet or line with parchment paper. Scoop out rounded tablespoons of dough and roll into a 1-inch ball. Sprinkle the ball with sprinkles then roll in the confectioner's sugar until completely covered. Place about 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes then allow to sit on the sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

MY REVIEW
For me, these cookies were pretty surprising. If you saw my last recipe on the light and sweet pistachio cake, this one is the exact opposite. It's a pretty dense, sugary cookie, but in the best way possible. You'll have to bring your sweet tooth if you plan on eating these. Just like how I pictured the pistachio cake at the adult table on Christmas Eve, this one is front and center at the kids table. The sprinkles make them fun and festive while the taste makes them a classic sweet dessert. In this recipe, the shining star is definitely the cake mix. The cookie has a soft, cake texture in the middle and the whole thing kind of tastes like cake batter (and if you've been on my blog before, you already know I'm a fan of that). Now, if this was just a cookie recipe, it would be getting tens cross the boar. The only negative I can say about this is it is not what I would consider a butter cookie. When yo think of a Christmas butter cookie, you can picture exactly how it's supposed to taste. If you picture than then try this cookie, you will not be met with the same taste you're thinking of. Tis is a very good cookie, but is not exactly a Christmas butter cookie. For the reason, I'd have to give this recipe an 8.5/10.  I really did like this one and the process was quick and easy, but the taste did not match the recipe name.
